The 90th Anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street

On Sunday 4th October 2026, the local community will commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street, a significant event in the history of the East End.

The anniversary event is expected to attract a large number of attendees from across London and beyond. Officers from the Metropolitan Police will be on duty throughout the day to help ensure the event is safe and enjoyable for all those attending, as well as for local residents, businesses and visitors.

Residents can expect an increased police presence in and around the Cable Street, Shadwell, Wapping and Whitechapel areas. There may also be temporary road closures and traffic disruptions during the course of the commemorative activities.

We ask everyone attending to be respectful of the local community, follow any steward and police instructions, and plan their journeys in advance.

The event provides an opportunity to reflect on the history of the East End and celebrate the strength, diversity and unity of our communities.
